In my opinion, the word death is a foreshadowing of the ending. It shows that Romeo will choose die for Juliet, if he can not see her anymore. Therefore, he use the word death a lot to represent his feeling towards the banishment. From the book we can see that Romeo love Juliet more than his life “Ha, banishment? Be merciful, say death(Romeo and Juliet location3832).” Romeo thinks that banishment is a crueler punishment than death, because banishment take him away Juliet. However, Romeo’s friend Lawrence thinks that it is prince’s mercy to use the world banish instead of death. Nonetheless, Romeo argued that there is nothing more important than Juliet to him, and he metaphor her as the best thing he can find in the word. Therefore, we can tell Romeo’s feeling and see the contrast that why banish means death to Romeo. In addition, it can explain why Romeo want to kill himself when he thinks Juliet is died.
