The way to a good director
Acting is always a fun thing to do for me, because you can act as a totally different person with diverse personalities. You can feel the emotion of the characters and the ideas the writer want to express. How exciting it is to become a medieval knight rushing though the battle; how enjoyable it is to become a poet who declaim the story of a dynasty; how distressed it is to become a poor man who fight with the upper class...However, a play is not only about acting but also staging. It is really important to have a good director to make a play good. Not like the Shakespeare time, which actor decide how to act out the play, the director now need to take charge of all most every thing in the play. Here is some experience I summarize about how to make a good scene from watching and performing the play during class.
First, because of the limits on time and the awkward language, it is really hard for actors to recite the lines. Therefore, how to show their emotion to audience become the biggest problem to me. They are holding the scripts all the time, and some of them even looking at it all the time. Nonetheless, I think it is really important to make eye contacts with audience and characters during the play to make a good scene. In that way, audience can feel the emotion from characters and the plot will become more vivid, because “the heart’s letter is read in the eyes.” In order to improve this disadvantage, actors need to recite the lines more frequently, or they can use more exaggerate body language to show their emotion to audience. In that case, it will transform to a more realistic and entertaining play.
Second, a good scene need to have a good arrangement on where to stand. A director knows that he need to set the main character in the middle of the stage and lets them
face in front of the audience. It is quite easy for my group to keep the main characters in front of audience, because all of us have same amount of lines which means we are all main characters. Therefore, all we need to do is keep our fight in the middle of the stage and always speak loud in front of audience. This is really easy for my group to speak loud and clear, because we are a group full of outgoing and “aggressive”(a real sword fight?) actors! We never afraid to express the emotions, and always try as hard as we can to make the plot become even more exciting. We prepare wooden sticks as sword to fight, and we are ready to show the most miserable and exaggerate whine when we got “killed” in the play.

To sum up, a good scene is combine with the hardworking from both director and actors. It is really important for director to arrange the performance and setting the positions for the actor for a good play. I have a long way to go as a director!
