The Conversation Between Soul
I always believe in the idea of fall in love at first sight. It is my longing and the ideal form of love. However, I can not describe or even imagine how can people fall in love at first sight, because this kind of feeling is never familiar to me. Fortunately, though the story performed by Romeo and Juliet, I start to notice that fall in love at first sight is an combination of miracle, coincidence and fate; both of them should have the same interests and understand each other. Also, they should have a fine-looking which is the basic condition for fall in love at first sight(Is that why I don’t get the chance? :(.) Therefore, I like the act 2 scene 2 in the book best, because it shows me why that Romeo and Juliet fall in love at first sight with each other.
The fate guide the way for Romeo and Juliet to meet with each other. It is such a miracle that Romeo and Juliet meet each other in the back yard. What a coincidence that they tell their love out without talking to each other! It is a conversation between their soul. Theses miracles and coincidences make Juliet brave enough to speak out her feelings, and let Romeo know and face the love from Juliet. There is a quote from the book “For what which thou hast heard me speak tonight. Fain would I dwell on form; fain, fain deny what I have spoke. But farewell compliment(Romeo and Juliet Shakespeare Loc 2270).” We can see that Juliet is not ready to tell Romeo her love that soon. She is shy; she needs to follow the rules for a gentlewoman; Romeo is her family enemy’s children. Nonetheless, the power of fate lead Romeo to Juliet and add a “catalyst” between their loves. Which also attract my eyes and perform the magic of fall in love at first sight is the conversation between Romeo and Juliet. Romeo goes back to the garden of Capulet tries to find Juliet. He sees Juliet on the balcony and describes her as: “But soft, what light through yonder window breaks? It is the east, and Juliet is the sun...Cast it off. It is my lady. O, it is my love(Romeo and Juliet Shakespeare Loc 2147).” Because of not knowing what Juliet’s feeling towards him and the afraid of arouses other people’s attention, Romeo speaks to himself in his heart. However, Juliet is coming to the balcony where nobody’s there to speak out her thoughts: “O Romeo, Romeo, wherefore art thou Romeo? Deny thy father and refuse thy name, Or, if thou wilt not, be but sworn my love, and I’ll no longer be a Capulet(Romeo and Juliet Shakespeare Loc 2189).” She speaks out her love with questioning and confusing, but what firm is her love towards Romeo. She struggles between her family and the man she loves. Without speaking with each other, two lovers display their loves to each other.
This whole scene is such a miracle, and that’s why I like this scene better than any other scene in act two. It shows me that the bond and understanding between two lovers who have only meet each other for the first time. I think there’s nothing more appropriate for the sentence fall in love at first sight to describe the love between Romeo and Juliet and that’s also what I always trying to find out!
